Li Troni Hotel Budoni

Well the first thing to say about this hotel is that it is not in Budoni, but Maiorca, a few miles away in a direction away from the beach. Finding it was a nightmare due to the lack of a proper address and the fact that no one answers the phone, we tried at least five times. Then arriving late and tired, not only were the staff unprepared for our arrival, but they asked for payment in advance and an additional 200 euros cash deposit with no prior agreement, or preinspection of the property allowed. To be fair, the complex is built to a very high spec and the apartment and pool were nice. It was sadly not staffed with locals from the small rural village which this resort had been unsympathetically constructed in the middle of, and the level of service was poor to day the least. Eating at the poolside restauant, you felt you were interrupting a private conversation and it was an inconvenience to serve you.

The final straw, a forest fire broke out in the region and in spite of the fact we were scared, the road wad closed, the air canada planes and two helicopters were dropping water and foam on the flames around us, the pool was full of ash and a tree was on fire in the garden (see photos of hotel garden), the owner refused not only to refund our money so we could move, and of course the deposit, but was rude and just said that of course it was safe and that we were being stupid.

Do not stay here.

Wonderful Trattoria - Agriturismo Gallura

Tired of paying cover charges at every meal that were averaging at around 3 euros per head and around 5 euros for water, stopping at this little trattoria at the side of the road between Santa Teresa and Isola Rossa, was a wonderful way to spend two hours of lunchtime gluttony.

Rather tatty, set back from the road and not a tourist in sight, we were offered a short list of choices (all in Italian but non speakers could cope I am sure). We ate a starter of ravioli between two, then a mixed grill of local meats (steak, pork, sausages and chicken) with two side salads. We drank half a litre of white wine and a litre of water. We were then brought a plate of home cooked cakes which were free of charge. The total bill? 28 euros. Service fantastic.
On the crossroads between the SP74 and the SP90 at Paduledda. You must go there.

Introduction to Samantha on ...Sardegna

This little blog is a collection of reviews, recommendations and warnings collected during my travels around Sardegna. Entirely independent, these reports only apply to what I found on a particular day, good, bad and indifferent whether it was accommodation, a restaurant, an activity or a beach. Feedback welcome.
